6 YEARS AGO: December 1st, 2018 Tornado Outbreak in Illinois

Sunday was the 6th anniversary of the December 1st, 2018 tornado outbreak, currently 4th on the list of most tornadoes in a single day for the state of Illinois. This was one of my all-time favorite storm chases, featuring highly visible, photogenic supercells and tornadoes for several hours that afternoon. Most of the tornadoes I observed remained over open fields, though some damage did occur as a tornado I was following moved into the southeast corner of Beardstown, Illinois. A nocturnal tornado caused widespread damage in Taylorville, Illinois on a storm to my south.
